2) the proprietary USB connection on the side of the camera is just that… Special, unique. You better not lose that cable that comes with the camera! I mean, really! Why did Panasonic have to do that? Everyone else in the industry has a “normal” mini-USB connector to hook up the camera to a PC. What were they thinking?

I’ve used this camera on the beach, while kayaking, out in the desert riding bikes and UTV’s, backpacking in the rain – and it held up perfectly.

Now if you have followed each of these steps correctly, you may be able to use your camera. Each and EVERY time you power on the camera, even if it went of due to power save, you will have to repeat these steps. For more fun switch to a picture mode, and receive even more warnings before you can proceed. I do not consider this a fast start up. <br />As for HD, Panasonic uses AVCHD Lite format.
